​RULES

  • League fees must be paid in full by the 2nd week.

  • League matches are best 2 out of 3 games scored 21, 21, 15.

  • In doubles, a block is considered a hit.

  • The ball may be played (clean) off any part of the body excluding the palms.

  • The serve may not be blocked or attacked. Setting the serve is legal but needs to come out of the hands clean.

  • If the ball hits the net on a serve it is still good at ALL levels.

  • Team’s first contact may not be a double hit.

  • Any ball that crosses the net through service or otherwise must be passed by one of the following: Bump set with the arm/forearms or any other part of the body other than the palms

  • Hand set that without double contact excluding a hard driven.

  • Each team is permitted one 30 second time out per game.

  • Only the acting team captain is permitted to question a call.

  • Scheduled playing time is 55 MINUTES LONG. If by ten (10) minutes past the start of the game a team does not have enough players that team will forfeit one game. If by fifteen (15) minutes past the start of the game a team still does not have enough players the match will be forfeited.

  • Each team will be allowed a 5 minute warm up.

  • Two team forfeits (matches) constitutes expulsion from the league. FEES ARE NOT REFUNDABLE!

  • Coed 4 teams may play with 2 players, 1 man and 1 woman.

  • You may play down 1 level not 2.

  • NO PROFANITY!!!!!!

  • No smoking or tobacco products on sand courts.

  • You can not have any contact with the NET. You may go under the net, providing there is no interference or contact with the opposing team.

  • Doubles and quads must be square to the place where they are setting the ball. Illegal sets are based by level of play (referees decision).

  • Setting the ball – Initial contact with the ball cannot be a double contact. When releasing the ball a continuos forward motion (rotation is not an issue) but a continuos rotation does suggest double contact on release.

  • Foot Faults – On the serve, your foot cannot contact the line or go under the line.

  • NO lifts, carries or throws at any level.

  • During tournament, you may only play on one (1) team per league.

 

NET VIOLATIONS

  • 4-s : All contact with the net is a violation

  • 2-s: All contact with the net “inside the antennae” is a violation

  • Exception: When the ball is driven into the net (even if it is hit into the TAPE) and the “the net” touches a player , no fault is committed

  • There is NO ball was down rule

    • 11.3 CONTACT WITH THE NET 11.3.1. Contact with the net by a player between the antennae, during the action of playing the ball, is a fault. The action of playing the ball includes (among others) take-off, hit (or attempt) and landing.

 

SIMULTANEOUS TOUCHES (BY TEAM OR OPPONENTS)

  • SIMULTANEOUS CONTACTS Two players may touch the ball at the same moment. 9.1.2.1 When two teammates touch the ball simultaneously, it is counted as two hits (with the exception of blocking).

  • When two opponents touch the ball simultaneously over the net (joust) and the ball remains in play, the team receiving the ball is entitled to another three hits. If such a ball goes “out,” it is the fault of the team on the opposite side.

 

INTERFERENCE

  • 11.4.1 A player touches the ball or an opponent in the opponent’s space before or during the opponent’s attack-hit.

  • 11.4.2 A player interferes with the opponent’s play while penetrating into the opponent’s space under the net.

  • 11.4.3 A player interferes with the opponent’s play by (amongst others):

    • -touching the net between the antennae or the antenna itself during his/her action of playing the ball,

    • -using the net between the antennae as a support or stabilizing aid,

    • -creating an unfair advantage over the opponent by touching the net,

    • -making actions which hinder an opponent’s legitimate attempt to play the ball,

    • -catching/holding on to the net.

    • Players close to the ball as it is played, or who are trying to play it, are considered in the action of playing the ball, even if no contact is made with the ball. (JUDGEMENT NOTICE: Play MUST MAKE AN ATTEMPT, and it be playable, falling around someone close is NOT an attempt it is a flop)

 

ATTACKING

  • A player hits the ball within the playing space of the opposing team.

  • A player hits the ball “out.”

  • A player completes an attack-hit using an open- handed finger action or if using fingertips that are not rigid and together

  • A player completes an attack-hit on the opponent’s service, when the ball is entirely higher than the top of the net.

  • (setting over applies to 2’s) A player completes an attack-hit using an overhand pass which has a trajectory not perpendicular to the line of the shoulders. The exception is when the player is attempting to set to his or her own teammate
